ITANAGAR, Dec 16: Arunachal Pradesh on Monday witnessed a largely peaceful and enthusiastic exercise of grassroots democracy as voters turned out in significant numbers to participate in the Panchayati Raj and Municipal elections held on December 15, informed the State Election Commission.
The polling, conducted across remote villages, district headquarters and urban centres, reflected strong public participation and reaffirmed people’s faith in the democratic process, the State Election Commission said in an official release. 
As per the statement of the Secretary SEC, Taru Taloh, Elections were held for 186 Zila Parishad constituencies, 1,947 Gram Panchayat constituencies, 16 wards under the Itanagar Municipal Corporation and 8 wards of the Pasighat Municipal Council. Of the total 5,94,307 voters enrolled in the Panchayati Raj electoral rolls, 4,45,264 exercised their franchise, registering an impressive turnout of 74.92 percent across the state. In the urban local body elections, 24,604 out of 47,877 voters cast their votes in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, recording a turnout of 51.39 percent, while the Pasighat Municipal Council registered a higher participation rate of 60.95 percent with 7,541 voters voting.
According to the Commission, Longding district emerged as the frontrunner in voter participation in the Panchayati Raj elections with a turnout of 84.31 percent, whereas East Kameng district recorded the lowest turnout at 65.05 percent. In the municipal segment, the highest voting percentage was recorded at Pasighat Municipal Council, particularly at Polling Station No. 1 of Government Secondary School, GTC, Pasighat under Ward No. 1. The lowest municipal turnout was reported at Polling Station No. 8 (Director of Fisheries), Vivek Vihar, Itanagar under Ward No. 3.
The State Election Commission noted that although minor and isolated incidents of disturbances were reported in a few polling stations, the overall polling process concluded smoothly without any major law and order problems. In view of disruptions at select locations, re-polling has been scheduled for December 18, 2025, in certain Gram Panchayat segments and polling stations in Namsai, Bichom, Tirap and Kamle districts. The counting of votes for all constituencies will be taken up on December 20.
