ITANAGAR, Jun 1: Reacting promptly to the arrest of two IRBN jawans by the Assam Police for their involvement in drug trafficking, Commandant-3rd IRBN has suspended both of them on Monday.
The duo were caught by the Assam police in Banderdewa under Bihpuria PS, Assam. Nine vials and two packets of suspected heroin were seized for their possession along with other articles.
The two IRBN constables have been identified as Gralong Ngadong (32) of Anjaw district and Joram Suraj (34) of Lower Subansiri district. Ngadong of A-Coy and Suraj of F-Coy were attached to the IRBN BHq, Seijosa and were currently deployed at APPSC Office, Itanagar and SBI, Naharlagun, respectively.
As per the suspension order, the duo have been directed not to leave the IRBN BHq, Seijosa without prior permission but will be entitled to draw subsistence allowance at admissible rates as per sub Rule-I of Rule 24 of the APP (D&A) Rules 1999 amended 2005. Earlier in April, one IRBN personnel was also caught with drugs by the public while two IRBN personnel made headlines last year for their involvement in a drug racket.
Meanwhile, taking serious cognizance of drug addiction among state government employees, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar has issued an order today wherein a one-time opportunity has been provided to such government employees to declare their addiction and undergo drug de-addiction treatment.
As per the order, government employees addicted to drugs will be given a one-time opportunity to report in writing about their addiction to the Controlling Officers on or before July 31 and take remedial measures for such addiction at their own cost immediately.
‘The Government will provide such employees one-time immunity from prosecution/disciplinary proceedings.
On the expiry of the timeline i.e. July 31, 2021, if any such violation is detected, it shall make the errant employees (regular/contractual/contingent) liable for stringent action, including termination from government service,’ the order read.
