ITANAGAR, Jan 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday announced a major overhaul of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, stating that the mechanism is being strengthened through advanced digitalisation to ensure tighter monitoring, effective enforcement and enhanced internal security across the state.
Addressing a press conference at the State BJP Headquarters, the Chief Minister said the upgraded digital ILP platform will incorporate multiple tracking and verification features, enabling authorities to detect the presence of outsiders even after the expiry of their permit validity.
“The reformed ILP system will significantly improve monitoring and help district administrations take timely action against violations,” Khandu said, adding that the move is aimed at safeguarding the demographic, cultural and security interests of Arunachal Pradesh.
Responding to concerns raised by various organisations, CM Khandu stated that clear directions have already been issued to all district administrations to identify and take action against illegal mosque constructions and unauthorised religious structures in the state.
He assured that the government would act strictly in accordance with the law, without discrimination, and that no illegal activity would be allowed to undermine communal harmony or the rule of law.
On the Lada–Sarli Frontier Highway land compensation controversy, the Chief Minister said the state government has already constituted a committee for reassessment of compensation claims, and the case has been formally registered for investigation.
Addressing demands for a CBI or Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe, Khandu clarified that central agencies function independently.
“The state government cannot direct central agencies to investigate. However, if any central agency chooses to step in, we will fully welcome it,” he said.
He made it clear that no one will be spared, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty after due investigation.
