Governor, CM thank Indian Army personnel deployed in state along LAC for 24x7 vigil

ITANAGAR, Jul 26: Arunachal Pradesh on Monday observed the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas that marks the triumph of the Indian armed forces over Pakistani troops in Kargil on July 26, 1999 by paying rich tributes to the martyrs.
Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu joined the celebrations from Raj Bhavan and Chuje Army establishment in Tawang respectively through virtual mode. The main event was organised at Raj Bhavan and the Governor paid homage to the war heroes who displayed indomitable courage and made supreme sacrifice by laying wreath and floral tributes. First Lady of the State Neelam Misra, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Major General GS Bisht, (Retd), Major General Jarken Gamlin (Retd.), State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Major General S.C. Mohanty, (Retd.) and Director cum Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board Air Commodore R.D. Mosabi (Retd.) also laid wreaths. 
Recalling the valour and supreme sacrifice made by the 527 personnel of the Indian Armed Forces while decimating the Pakistani troops from Kargil Heights, the Governor who after retirement from Army volunteered to join the Kargil War, gave a vivid description of the battle. “Kargil War was fought on the highest battlefield of the world and it was an extremely important war for India from military point of view. But for the victory in the Kargil War, India would have completely lost access to its Ladakh region,” the Governor said, adding that every citizen must imbibe the passion and spirit of the Kargil martyrs and India’s freedom fighters for the defence of the nation. Kargil War victory will continue to inspire several generations, Mein said while remembering the martyrs. ITBP personnel presented ‘Shoke Shastra’ and  ‘Salami Shastra’ accompanied by the bugle calls of ‘Last Post’ and ‘Rouse Reveille’ to mark the ceremony. A short film on Kargil War was also screened during the event.
As part of the day’s celebrations, the Governor addressed the Indian Army troops currently stationed in various locations including Walong, Mechuka and Tawang.
While exhorting the officers and personnel of the Indian Army to discharge their duties with dedication, he complimented the troops deployed in Arunachal Pradesh for their operational efficiency, environmental initiatives and measures for instilling confidence and sense of amity among local population. The Governor also urged the personnel of various Army Mountain Divisions to motivate and prepare the local youths for participating in recruitment in armed forces. He conveyed his appreciation to GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Lt General Manoj Pande and all the General Officers Commanding the Formation in the state for facilitating the virtual meet with the soldiers and officers of the Indian Army located on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Chief Minister Pema Khandu joined the Indian Army in celebrating the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas virtually from Chuje Army establishment in Tawang where he was accompanied by Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi,  Brig. Vijaykumar R Jagtap, Commander of 190 Mountain Brigade, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok, SP, officers and jawans of the Army and ITBP.
Paying rich tributes to the Kargil martyrs, Khandu recalled their sacrifices that led to the triumph in the war that lasted for over three months atop the freezing heights of Kargi. Thanking the Indian Army for serving in one of the most difficult terrains of Arunachal, he said the state’s people greatly value their role in guarding the borders. Arunachalees are patriots and are always with the Indian Army in any eventuality, he said while stating that army-civilian bonhomie in the state is unmatched and both the local population and Army can traverse the extra mile to help each other. He also thanked the GOC-in-C, Eastern Command for facilitating the event. 
Earlier on the day, Khandu laid wreath at the Tawang War Memorial in remembrance of the great martyrs of the Kargil War. PRO Raj Bhavan, CMO
