ITANAGAR, Jan 16: Arunachal Pradesh joined the rest of the nation in commencing the COVID-19 vaccination drive today with the Chief Minister, Home Minister and Health Minister making simultaneous launching from three different locations.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the vaccine at Khadro Drowa Sangmo (KDS) Hospital in Tawang with Senior Medical Officer Dr Thutan Tsering becoming the first in the district to be administered the shot in his presence. Khandu while congratulating Dr Tsering said the first step towards victory over coronavirus has begun. He also lauded the healthcare workers of the district for containing the virus despite it being one of the most visited places by tourists in the region. Later he visited the under-construction IPD ward of the district hospital and took stock of the progress from the DC, DMO and Medical superintendent.
The Chief Minister also visited the temporary indoor patient block and interacted with the patients while distributing fruits and essentials. Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi and officials of the District Administration accompanied him.
The Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun became part of the historic occasion as Home Minister Bamang Felix launched the vaccine here.
Dr Prasanta Kumar Deka, Professor Obs & Gyn department was the first to be administered the dose.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Secretary Health & Family Welfare P Parthiban, ICR DC, SP, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the capital, Director Health & FW, MD NHM and other officials of the State Health Department were witness to the launch event.
Minister Health and Family Welfare etc. Alo Libang launched the vaccine at the District Hospital, Yingkiong in the presence of MLA Er. Kanggong Taku, Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang Tapar Pada, HoDs, newly elected PRI members and public leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Libang highlighted the steps taken by the state government to counter the Covid-19 pandemic and allayed doubts about the vaccine while reiterating its full safety. 91 health workers including doctors, nurses, MTS, sanitary assistants and drivers of the District Hospital were vaccinated on the first day and no cases of injection-induced side effects were reported.
Vaccination sessions for the remaining healthcare workers of the District Hospital and for CHC Tuting and Mariyang will be worked out in the following week.
Minister Agriculture, Horticulture etc. Er.Tage Taki launched the vaccine at Gyati Takka General Hospital, Ziro in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri Swetika Sachan, SP Harsh Indora and DMO Dr. Tage Kanno.
In their messages to the denizens of the district, the Minister and DC while reiterating that the vaccine is fully safe, appealed them not to fall prey to rumours. 100 beneficiaries were vaccinated on the first day and the next session sites will be conducted at CHC Yazali and PHC Deed Neelam on January 17. Subsequent vaccination sessions will start from January 18 at CHC Old Ziro and PHCs in Yachuli, Talo, Pistana and Poru.
In the first phase of the vaccination, 1000 beneficiaries from the health department in the district will be inoculated.
In East Siang the Covid-19 vaccination drive was launched by Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering at Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH).
A total of 100 healthcare workers comprising doctors, nurses, sanitary assistants, MTS and drivers of the Health Department were administered with first doses. Lauding the Chief Minister for the efforts in fighting the pandemic in the state, Ering stressed on continuation of all preventive SOPs. DC East Siang Dr. Kinny Singh while acknowledging the wholehearted efforts of the district’s Covid warriors appealed all to continue with the preventive guidelines. Jt. DHS (T&C), BPGH Dr. D. Raina who also took the shot informed that after administration of the first dose the next one must have to be taken after 28 days. He urged all to follow the existing preventive guidelines such as wearing masks, hand washing, maintaining social distancing etc.
ADC (Hq) Taddo Borang, DMO Dr. Kaling Dai, DRCHO Dr. T. Gao, BPGH Medical Superintendent YR. Ringu, DD ICDS Machi Gao, Councillors and ZPM were among others present at the launching ceremony.
Meanwhile, Minister Education-cum-MLA 16 Yachuli AC Er. Taba Tedir today visited CHC Yazali to take stock of its preparedness for the vaccination session.
Vaccinations for the healthcare workers will start here on Sunday. Interacting with the healthcare workers and beneficiaries Tedir appealed all who have registered for the vaccination to take the doses without any fear. Later he inspected the vaccination sites, observation room etc. at the CHC premises.
The Minister was accompanied by ADC Toko Babu and Circle Officer Yazali Tashi W Thungdok.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today while officially launching the country’s Covid-19 vaccination drive which is also the world’s largest inoculation exercise against the novel coronavirus in a virtual address from the national capital paid tribute to the scientists and frontline healthcare workers for successfully battling the pandemic. He also appealed to the citizens not to pay heed to any propaganda or false rumours about the efficacies of the vaccines. In the first phase which was launched today, 1 crore healthcare workers and 2 crore frontline workers throughout the country will be vaccinated.
Arunachal Pradesh, as of now, has received a consignment of 32,000 doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine Covishield which has been produced in the country by the Serum Institute of India.
