ITANAGAR, Nov 30:After facing severe criticism, the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, (APPSC) on Thursday agreed to constitute an expert committee to examine various issues raised by aspirants relating to the APPSCCE prelims examination-2017 and assured not to announce the results until the controversy regarding the question paper setting is resolved.

The development comes after hundreds of students staged a protest inside the campus of the Commission office on Thursday morning demanding to nullify the exams and re-conduct the whole examination process again.

The students were demanding constitution of an expert committee with members consisting of retired High Court judge, eminent senior scholars of each optional subject and renowned social activist to review the question sheets.

Addressing press reporters outside the Commission office, an aspirant leading the protest, Bengia Taja pointed out that there was an extreme lack of moderation and scaling while setting the questions, which has raised doubts whether the optional papers were set by an expert.

Aspirants also alleged that the optional paper of Geography was comparatively easier to other subjects while pointing out several errors in General Studies question paper.

Alleging that in few centres Smartphones were used in classrooms, Taja said ‘How will others compete with those using Smartphones to solve the questions?’

Expressing dismay at the way this year’s APPSCCE papers were set, he alleged that there was no uniformity maintained while setting the question papers.

He also told that papers distributed were not sealed properly and stickers were manually pasted on the booklet series and most of the questions were picked serial wise from unreliable sources, even those questions with wrong answers.

“How can we consider that this test is a fair one?” he questioned.

Understandably, students who have come to the state capital incurring huge expenditure to take the tests are distressed and frustrated over the debacle.

“Despite facing several criticisms in the past, the APPSC failed to learn its lesson. This is just the beginning and we will continue our protest till all our issues are resolved,” he affirmed.

The protesters mostly consisted of those taking subjects such as Sociology, Public Administration, Mathematics, Physics, Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry and History.--
