PASIGHAT, Nov 10: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded a "No Confidence Motion" against the BJP's Chief Councillor in the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), citing alleged mismanagement and calling for prompt action from the East Siang district administration. The demand comes in the wake of a State Election Commission (SEC) ruling in favour of six Congress councillors who were reportedly expelled and disqualified illegally.
PMC is composed of eight councillors, of whom two are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and six are from the Indian National Congress (INC), said Toko Meena, Vice President of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) while addressing the media at press club on Sunday. Meena emphasized that the State Election Commission’s recent order upholds the Congress councillors’ positions, invalidating their disqualification and expulsion.
“The State Election Commission has provided justice to our six Congress councillors who were illegally disqualified and expelled. The commission has deemed the BJP city president's allegations as null and void,” Meena stated, adding that this decision clears the path for the Congress-led council to resume its work without obstruction.
Following the SEC order, the six Congress councillors have formally requested the district administration to allow a No Confidence Motion against the Chief Councillor from the BJP. They argued that further delays could hinder essential development projects in the region.
“This delay is affecting development activities that are crucial for Pasighat. We call on the district administration to expedite the process for the No Confidence Motion to uphold democratic principles and ensure local governance can function smoothly,” Meena added.
