ZIRO, Jun 19: Tañw Supuñ Dukuñ (TSD), the apex council of the Apatani community has termed the recent tweet by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wherein he mentioned Kimin as part of Assam while attending the inaugural function of a road project (Kimin-Potin Road, 0-20 KM) on June 17 and a subsequent broadcast of the same by Aaj Tak news channel as “very unfortunate and immature.”
Taking strong exception to the erroneous information, TSD has said that the statement has undermined the local ownership and sentiments of the entire state. The Kimin ADC headquarters is hardly a 40-minute drive from state capital Itanagar sharing a contagious area almost as an extended part of the capital region and declaring Kimin as a part of Assam without going through constitutional mandate and notification of the State Reorganization Act in presence of high constitutional authorities and representatives is really confusing, TSD said in its press release issued today. The land where the BRO and ITBP camps are located in Kimin was donated by the forefathers of the local Arunachalees without any compensation for the sake of well-being of the country and its security, however, this has been blatantly ignored and disrespected, the release read.
TSD has also denounced the RTC ITBP and BRO for covering ‘Arunachal Pradesh’ with white paste on various sign boards in their camps which is well within the state boundary. Such acts in the pretext of security reasons is unwarranted and there can be no strategic issues as the international border begins only after crossing six major districts and the state’s Chief Minister through his social media handle also issued a clear statement that the said programme was in Kimin, Arunachal Pradesh, the council stated.
Such misleading information not only send a wrong message to the people at large but also exhibits the poor insensitivity on the issue and may fuel the already vexed boundary issues between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the TDS observed while urging the concerned officials and channels to amend their erroneous statements and issue the correct information.
