HOLLONGI, May 11: A team from the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) headed by its President Nabam Dodum and General Secretary Gora Rikam today visited the Hollongi check gate to take stock of the Covid situation and interacted with the officials, volunteers, denizens and Bazar Welfare Committee of the area.
Speaking to the media, the ANSU President informed that its team is visiting all the entry points of the Capital Complex to gather first-hand information about the situation and the needs of the frontline workers who are rendering duties selflessly amid the tough time. “While interacting with the locals and Front Line Warriors (FLW) at the Hollongi check gate we have been informed that there are some laxities relating to basic facilities for both FLWs and those testing positive,” Dodum informed. “I presume there is some mismanagement in relation to Covid funds by the state government because the facilities which are to be ensured are still pending,” he claimed while stating that the issue will be raised with the state government soon. He appreciated the common people of Hollongi for calling the lockdown voluntarily in the area to contain the virus’s spread. “Government cannot contain the virus alone and we all have to join this fight and follow the SOPs," Dodum added.
Meanwhile, the ANSU President also called upon the state government to ramp up the vaccination programme.
In a statement he said that measures like lockdown are temporary and Covid can be contained only by vaccinating all eligible citizens. “States like Maharashtra and Delhi are already calling global tenders to vaccinate their citizens. Our government needs to do the same and act quickly to vaccinate the citizens,” Dodum contended. The union has also called for increasing the testing capacity. “Our current scope of testing is far too limited. More number of testing centres should be set up across the state and in the Capital Region particularly. The cost of RT-PCR test should be kept at Rs 300 as it will encourage more people to go for RT-PCR tests,” the ANSU President said.
Furthermore, the union has urged the state government to provide one month extra salary to the healthcare workers for their selfless services during the pandemic. “They need to be rewarded for the sacrifice. Also the government should use the officials of other departments for contact tracing, data entry, home quarantine/containment zone monitoring etc. This will reduce the burden of the healthcare workers,” Dodum said while urging the state government to judiciously use the fund allotted for Covid-19. The union will not tolerate any kind of mismanagement of Covid-19 fund in the state, he reiterated. It also suggested OPD for Covid patients, oxygen generation plants in all CHCs of the state, increasing the number of ICU beds at DCHs (Chimpu and Pasighat) and enhanced oxygen-supported beds and installation of CT scan facilities in all District and Zonal/General Hospitals.
ANSU also vehemently condemned the recent attack on two doctors and the subsequent vandalism at a private hospital in Naharlagun by the relatives of the aggrieved family. “To discourage any such mob attacks on doctors, the state government should issue public condemnation and take necessary action to boost the morale of our doctors,” the ANSU President remarked.
Meanwhile, speaking on the law and order situation, SDPO, Papum Pare (Rural) Dekio Gumja informed that people are cooperative and supporting the law enforcing agencies in all respects. Hollongi area has some porous boundaries but the police team is vigilant and keeping its eyes open, he assured while adding that the team is in continuous touch with the check gate at Chimpu to share information about any suspected movement of people/vehicles illegally crossing the Hollongi border.
“The administration is providing all kinds of support to the officials delivering duties at the check gate,” EAC-cum-Incident Commander Boria Marchina said. Although there are some issues, the police, administration and volunteers are working with close coordination, EAC informed while appealing denizens to follow all SOPs properly.
