DAMBUK, Apr 5: The Anglo Abor War of 1894 was commemorated today at the Bongal Yapgo Heritage site in Yapgo village, Dambuk coinciding with the ongoing Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav which is a precursor to the 75th anniversary of India's independence.
MLA, 42nd Dambuk Gum Tayeng graced the occasion as Chief guest, also attended by Secretary, Cultural Affairs Remo Kamki, Director, Art and Culture Tamune Messar, ADC Sibo Passing, EAC, Kabang Apum, ZPC Obang Ngupok, President and Secretary of ABK and IMCLS, Chairman and Secretary of Bongal Yapgo
Preservation Committee among others. To mark the day, the national flag was hoisted at Bongal Yapgo by the MLA in presence of a huge public gathering. As a mark of respect to the freedom fighter Late Muttum Darin, a floral tribute was paid at the War memorial (Muttum Lireng) by all dignitaries followed by a 2-minute silence in honour of all martyrs. The Director, Art and Culture said the war heritage site should be preserved and assured to extend cooperation from his end in its preservation and making it a tourist hotspot.
The MLA also appealed to the locals to cooperate with the government and the departments in preserving the site and promised to release funds from her MLA LAD quota for construction of a platform around the historical hollock tree (Keming Lokne). DIPRO
