ITANAGAR, Apr 29: All Arunachal Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, President, Yasi Nalo Sonam on Saturday clarified that it has legally asked permission from Director (WCD) to allow the Anganwadi workers to participate in the three day long foundation celebration as well as to hold a rally.

Justifying its claims, Sonam said that “The copy of intimation letter was also sent to all concerned of districts besides Police Station to Minister Women & Child Development,” while  accusing  the Director Women & Child Development of ignoring the intimation letter and misleading the government.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon at press club, Sonam strongly criticized the callous attitude of the concern Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) authorities for issuing unjustified show cause notice seeking explanation from respective Anganwadis despite the request being made to the Director ICDS.

Terming the show cause notice served by ICDS as completely uncalled for, Sonam sought intervention of concern Minister and state government in particular to direct the concern ICDS to roll back the order for the welfare of poor anganwadi workers who are feeling neglected now.

Referring to termination of about 60 anganwadi workers in October last year by concern deputy director, ICDS of Khonsa Tirap and Longding district without any valid reason, Sonam said ‘we strongly condemn the order issued by concern Director ICDS regarding such number of termination of anganwadi workers and helpers.’

He claimed that the concern deputy director has allegedly terminated 60 workers in October last year with ill intention to enroll his own people in the ICDS by snatching away the only source of income of the poor anganwadi workers and helpers long serving the state from last 15 to 20 years.

Calling the termination based on lack of requisite qualification for the job as illegal, Sonam said that how can he terminate 60 workers on the basis of their education qualification workers as before entering into the job there was no service conditions prescribed that he/ she should possess education qualifications.

Expressing deep shock over the unfortunate death of two workers following termination of their services, the Union also strongly demanded the authority to immediately provide ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the bereaved families and immediately reinstate the terminated workers or to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to them.

Sonam also strongly demanded transfer of Deputy Director, ICDS Cell, Tirap and Longding district and all CDPOs of ICDS Cell, Khonsa and Supervisor within one week’s time for their alleged illegal activities in terminating the workers.

Meanwhile, the Union has sought immediate public apology from one Yumlam Ama for defaming the Union in social media on false claim of misappropriation of the donation collected from its members for the rally without knowing the ground reality failing which it threatened to initiate legal action against the individual.
