ITANAGAR, Apr 4: The Galo Students Union (GSU) has decided to go ahead with its second phase of agitation by calling a 36-hour bandh from April 10-11 next and third phase from April 17-19 in all Galos inhabited areas protesting the failure of the government to fulfill its 9-point charter of demands. The bandh call will be supported by Galo Peoples Front (GPF) with a mass protest rally here at Itanagar on the same day.

The decision was jointly taken in a coordination meeting convened by the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) with representatives of all the frontal organizations including the GPF and the GSU to review the outcome of the first phase of bandh held on March 28 last.

The house has expressed strong displeasure at the repeated unresponsive attitude of the State Government towards their genuine demands.

Taking serious note of the lackadaisical attitude of the state government, the GSU has strongly condemned the government for turning a blind eye to the genuine issues and failure to honour its commitments and promises made to the Galos.

Pointing out that many other new districts have been created without any hassles and still proposals for new ones are going on at the various levels, the GSU said that the demand for creation of Lower Sing District (LSD) is purely envisioned to mitigate the hardships of citizens residing along the Arunachal-Assam boundary and to provide administrative convenience to isolated areas under the proposed district which is taking so long to function.

The house also made fervent appeal to Galos across the state to support the bandh call and requested employees to take 2 day casual leave in support of the agitation.

Immediate functioning and posting of DC & SP at Likabali (Lower Siang District), Non-exclusion of any part under 28th Nari Koyu Assembly Constituency from Lower Siang District, Cabinet approval as well as creation of Leppa Rada District, Posting of Doctors, Medical Staff, Equipment at General Hospital Aalo, Creation of TGT/ST subject teachers to upgraded higher secondary schools in Liromoba, Nehru Memorial Aalo, Dari and Maro etc are among its 9-point charter of demands.
