ITANAGAR, Apr 18:One of the largest farmers’ cooperative organizations  in the country, the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) in collaboration with state cooperative and Agriculture department on Tuesday  celebrated IFFCO’s 50 years glorious journey  by conducting a conference for farmers and cooperators  here at state banquet hall.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, MD, IFFCO, Dr. US Awasthi emphasized that for good and sustainable farming and to increase the productivity of soil, farmers needs to be trained about balanced use of fertilizers and other Agri and Horti related farming techniques.

Awasthi said that progress in agriculture depends to a large extent on the adoption of better farm practices by farmers.

Dwelling in detail about IFFCO’s journey, he said that the IFFCO is an organization formed to work for all round development of farmers in farming sector. Informing about the numerous assistance provided, he urged farmers to register with the web portal, where already four crore farmers are registered and availing numerous benefits for their crops and products.

Exhorting the farmers to share the innovative ideas of sustainable farming to others, Awasthi also appealed to the youths to join the IFFCO movement through the scheme “IFFCO Yuva” which provides seven day skill test to disseminate information on farming related techniques.

He further also expressed surprise over the non-implementation of “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna’ scheme in the state.

Secretary Cooperation, Onit Panyang who attended as Guest of Honour emphasized on the need to promote cooperation movement in Arunachal Pradesh too to make farmers self reliant and to push sustainable livelihood.

Arunachal Pradesh Consumer Cooperative Federation Ltd (APCCF ltd) Administrator Likha Teji called for establishing an IFFCO office to give all relevant information about farming and necessary benefits provided under IFFCO.

Teji also said the IFFCO movement to promote sustainable farming in the state would help Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s vision to make Arunachal an organic state.

IFFCO Senior General Manager (Mktg) New Delhi Yogendra Kumar, Senior Marketing Manager (NE) D Bag, prominent progressive farmers Likha Maj, Cooperator Taro Modi, Arjit Bhattacharjee among others spoke on the occasion.

Few co-operators and progressive famers in the field of Rubber, Kiwi, Large Cardamom, Handicrafts etc from various districts were also felicitated with certificates. More than two hundred seventy five progressive farmers and co-operators participated.

Few attractions of the day long programme were the IFFCO products, health checking camp etc.
