PASIGHAT, Dec 9: The passing away of one of the most respected pioneering figures of Arunachal Pradesh – first generation distinguished Retired IAS officer, a prolific writer, cultural icon, thinker and a scholar, Oshong Ering on December 8, at his Mirku residence after prolonged illness has led to an outpouring of mourning and grief at the loss of the great personality from all quarters of society. He was laid to rest today at Mirku Village where prominent personalities community members, admirers, well wishers and relatives and people from various walks of life thronged his residence to pay their last respects. His passing is not only the loss of a highly distinguished officer but also the departure of a profound thinker whose philosophical and literary contributions will continue to guide future generations.
Late Ering, joined government service in the 1960 as Area Superintendent at Pasighat and from there on served in various administrative posts and rose to serve in several key positions including Deputy Commissioner, Director of Arts & Culture, Director Civil Supplies, Director Relief & Rehabilitation, and Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Throughout his decades of administrative service across Pasighat, Yingkiong, Pangin, Boleng, Mariyang, Anini, Tezu, and other regions, he was admired for his honesty , integrity, humility, and dedication towards public service and community welfare. Parallel to his service career, he contributed immensely to Adi literature, cultural knowledge, and the Bogum Bokang Kebang institution, strengthening indigenous identity and intellectual continuity. Late Ering was among the earliest tribal scholars from the Arunachal Pradesh.
Expressing grief, Member of Parliament Tapir Gao stated “Shri Oshong Ering’s demise is a great loss to the State of Arunachal Pradesh, and to all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.” Pasighat MLA Tapi Darang, Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, former MLAs Kaling Moyong and Bosiram Siram also paid their heartfelt condolences and tributes.
MLA Ninong Ering, paying his last respects said “He was an officer of impeccable character; simple, grounded, and devoted entirely to the people and community and we are overwhelmed. His life will continue to inspire generations of officers and youth. Today, we gather along with the Adi society and people from various walks of life, who have come all the way here to honour and pay our final respects.”
Meanwhile East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani and SP Pankaj Lamba respectively also mourned the loss of the distinguished administrator who had such a profound impact on society.
The Adi Agom Kébang (AAK) HQ Pasighat led by its President Dr. Tayek Talom also expressed deepest condolence at the passing away of Oshong Ering, IAS (Rtd) stating that “The passing away of a great writer and philosopher, Oshong Ering has created a vacuum in the Adi society in terms of composition, writing, publication of book, literary activities, philosophical epistemology and other societal development which is an irrevocable loss for the state of Arunachal Pradesh in general and the Adi community in particular. With you, the light of opus of literature and epistemology has dimmed, diminished and faded in the air.”
Late Ering who led a quiet but impactful life after retirement is survived by his three sons and three daughters and many grandchildren who brought him so much joy and cheer. His passing truly marks the end an era. DIPRO
