ITANAGAR, Oct 7: In a major breakthrough, the Capital Police cracked the mysterious death case reported from Chimpu, arresting the absconding accused after a relentless, two-week-long inter-state operation that spanned across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
The case (Chimpu PS Case No. 69/2025 u/s 103(1)/238(a) BNS) began on September 23, 2025, when police received information via the ERSS Control Room at around 6:18 pm about a suspected dead body at Chimpu-I, near Power House. Upon arrival, the police discovered a highly decomposed female body buried beneath the kitchen floor of a bamboo-thatched rented house belonging to one Kamal Pradhan (65 yrs).
The deceased, identified by her son as a woman aged around 55–60 years, had been missing for several days. The accused landlord had already fled from the scene, leaving behind no photograph, ID, or verifiable address, making the case initially blind and highly challenging for investigators.
The investigation was led by SI Tate Nabam, under the supervision of  Jummar Basar, SP Capital and overall command of DySP Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Itanagar.
Capital Police launched an intensive multi-pronged probe—combining field operations, technical surveillance, and intelligence inputs. Teams were dispatched to multiple locations, including Hollongi, Satrang Nepali Basti, Tangya, Rangajan, and adjoining border villages, while coordination was maintained with Assam Police through Gingia and Balichang Police Stations (Biswanath District, Assam).
Local informants, Gaon Burahs, and Transport Union leaders were engaged to trace the fugitive.
Acting on specific inputs, a special team led by DySP Kengo Dirchi, along with OC Chimpu Inspector Neeraj Nishant, SI Tate Nabam, HC Marge Lona, and Ct Jayanta Baruah, conducted a pre-dawn raid on October 6, 2025, at Majuli Pathar, Assam, and successfully apprehended the absconding accused, identified as Kamal Pradhan (63 yrs) resident of Majuli Village, Balichang PS, Biswanath District, Assam.
The swift arrest within two weeks of body recovery marks a major achievement for the Capital Police, showcasing determination, teamwork, and effective inter-state coordination in solving a complex and sensitive case.
The accused is currently in police custody for sustained interrogation, while DNA, viscera, and FSL reports are awaited to scientifically establish the cause of death and forensic linkage.
The Capital Police have urged all citizens to ensure proper tenant verification and to immediately report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station.
