ITANAGAR, Jun 30: The Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu containing the appeals to provide life insurance coverage to the state’s ASHA workers engaged in Covid duties, installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Pasighat airport and creation of a post of Traffic Warden in Pasighat.
ABKYW President Joluk Minung told reporters that despite being extensively used during the Covid pandemic as frontline workers, the ASHAs receive a monthly compensation of just Rs 2000 per month. “Despite active participation in containing the Covid spread, they have not been recognized by the state. Therefore, we appeal to the state government to provide at least a life insurance coverage along with certificates and awards as recognition,” he said. Speaking on installation of ILS at Pasighat airport, the ABKYW President said it is necessary to facilitate landing of aircrafts in all weather conditions and during night hours. The third appeal for engagement of Traffic Wardens in Pasighat is in line with the Itanagar Traffic Warden system to lessen the increasing traffic congestion in the township, he added.
Earlier on the day, the ABKYW members met the adviser to Chief Minister Tai Tagak at his office and appealed to the state government to provide assistance to the BRO and Siang District Administration for restoration of Sanggam bridge which is the lifeline of 5 districts within a month. It can be recalled that the bridge collapsed a couple of days back. The ABKYW has also appealed to the people of Boleng and Pangin areas to volunteer in the restoration of the bridge along with the BRO. Likewise, the union also appealed for the restoration of the collapsed road at Rotung on Pasighat-Pangin highway.
“We also appeal the state government to intervene in the boundary issue between East Siang and Lower Siang and solve the matter at the earliest, amicably,” ABKYW President said, contending that no person or administrative officers, either from the two districts should be included in the boundary demarcation process. The ABKYW made its stand clear that it would not allow the inclusion of Adi lands in Lower Siang district without the consent of the ABK.
The union also apprised the adviser to the CM on the need for a 50-bedded De-Addiction-cum-Rehabilitation Centre at Pasighat.
