ITANAGAR, Jun 5: In the wake of the silence maintained by the state government following reports of granting of citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees in the state, the apex students body of the state All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union today threatened to resort to democratic movement if the government fails to call an all party meeting within June 10 next.

Speaking to reporters at press club today, President AAPSU, Hawa Bagang reiterated that if the state government fails to honour its memorandum submitted on May 29 last after its consultative meeting seeking an all party meeting along with all 60 MLAs and 3 MPs, the apex body in its special session today has resolved to launch a democratic movement.

‘Almost a week has passed but the government is still quiet on our demand for all party meeting on the burning citizenship rights issue,’ slammed Bagang while asserting that AAPSU will never accept any kind of land or other property rights to the refugees.

‘Granting citizenship to refugees means granting political right to them which is not a good trend when their population is already higher than some of the indigenous tribes. Moreover, these refugees are indulging in many criminal activities  like murder, kidnapping even rapes so giving them citizenship means giving them right to commit crime against the indigenous people,’ he added.

Speaking on the occasion, AAPSU General Secretary, Tobom Dai also added that due to the lackadaisical attitude of the state government, the Union has called a special session with its federal members and took firm resolution to resort to democratic movement if government fails to call all party meeting within June 10 next.
