ITANAGAR, Mar 4:The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has raised concern over the lack of awareness regarding schemes for girl students which have been initiated by the government to facilitate their education.
This was observed when a team visited government Middle School, Lada in East Kameng District. The union’s Vice President Protocol, Dr. Tayuk Sonam along with Education Secretary Prem Tallang Camdir and Chief Coordinator of NESO, Pritam Waii Sonam part of the visiting team also raised concern over the dilapidated infrastructure including lack of classroom furniture in this school established in the year 1986.
The government has been providing so many facilities under various educational schemes, but most of the students do not know anything about the schemes. Students were unaware of Vidya scheme, which was launched for unmarried girl students of class 6th standard for continuing school education. This scheme envisages an initial deposit of Rs 10,000/ only in the account of girl students to be drawn with interest after passing class 12th standard, the Union said in a release.

A cash award of Rs 50/ per girl student per month for 12 months shall be provided to each girl student studying in class VI to XII in government schools. This scheme was implemented in Arunachal Pradesh since 2013-2014. Further, the State Govt. should implement all these schemes via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) without engaging any third party for proper implementation, said AAPSU’s General Secretary Tobom Dai.
The Union further appealed all girl students between class VII to XII standards in both government and government aided schools to open bank account and submit it to the concern Headmasters & Principals for availing the provision under the Vidya Scheme and the programme for menstrual hygiene scheme.
The Vice President has also strongly urged the state government to include substantial amount of funds for repair and renovation of all the government schools in the state.
