ITANAGAR, Jun 12: In a resounding call to action, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has announced a large-scale protest rally to be held on June 16 next in the state. The rally is part of AAPSU’s intensified campaign against the growing menace of illegal immigration in Arunachal Pradesh, which the union says is threatening the very identity and future of its indigenous communities.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, AAPSU Finance Secretary Byabang Hapo Dui declared that the rally is not just a show of dissent but a decisive movement aimed at pressuring the authorities into immediate and uncompromising action. The union warned that the unchecked influx of undocumented immigrants could dangerously alter the state’s demographic composition, compromise the electoral rolls, and ultimately erode the rights of the local tribal population.
Asserting the urgency of the situation, AAPSU called for the identification and deportation of all undocumented settlers, including those from the Chakma-Hajong, Nepali, Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Bangladeshi Muslim communities. The union also demanded a crackdown on cases of duplicate and dual voter enrollments across the country, especially in Arunachal Pradesh, where electoral manipulation poses a grave concern. AAPSU further urged the state government to issue a cabinet-level directive to thoroughly review and sanitize the electoral rolls, insisting that any re-inclusion of names be done through a strict and transparent verification process.
Describing the protest as a battle for the survival of Arunachal’s indigenous identity, AAPSU called upon all citizens, community-based organizations, student groups, and civil society members to join hands and take part in the rally. The union emphasized that this is a historic moment for the people of Arunachal to unite and protect their land, culture, and democratic rights from being compromised.
