ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has expressed its concern over the appointment of the Special Secretary (Education) as Director (In-charge) of Elementary Education. In a press release issued today, AAPSU said that the state government should refrain from taking such decisions which will have an adverse effect on the teaching community and students indirectly in the long run. “If there is any vacancy in the Department, the post should be duly filled after following the established norms and as per information received by our office, the rule has not been adhered to,” the union alleged. Arunachal Pradesh Education Act 2009-10 clearly states that to become a teacher, BEd, APTET/CTET qualification is essential and the post of Director in the Education Department follows the same norms and teachers are promoted to the said post from a teaching background, AAPSU said, contending that a responsible position like the post of Director of Elementary Education (DEE) or Secondary Education of Higher and Technical Education should be helmed only by persons who have served in the Department. The state government should be more considerate towards the genuine demands of the teaching community and effectively work towards resolution of issues flagged by them, the release mentioned. Extending support to all the demands placed by the teaching fraternity through the Arunachal Teachers' Association (ATA), AAPSU has urged the state government to look into the matter without any delay. “Further, AAPSU strongly stands by its earlier opposition to the cabinet decision taken on June 2, 2019 for only one director for school education by merging the posts of the director of Elementary Education and the director of Secondary Education and reiterates its demand for revocation of the said decision in greater interest of both the teaching and student community of the state,” the release clarified.
