ITANAGAR, Mar 7: The fifteenth NSS North East Festival and the third in a row to be organized by Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated here today at Don Bosco College, by Commissioner Education Hage Kojeen, in a gathering of 300 registered participants from the eight north eastern states including Uttar Pradesh.

While welcoming the guests and National Service Scheme volunteers, Dr. Nicholas, Principal, Don Bosco College called upon the volunteers to be true to the NSS motto, “Not me, but you”, and get rid of all selfish intentions while serving humanity.   Speaking about the festival, Sunil Basumathari, Regional Director, NSS dwelt on the main objective of the festival, which is bringing the whole of North East on one platform and thus enable ‘bonding beyond borders’. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Deputy Programme Advisor, NSS, Government of India spoke about the decision of the Central Government to pair each of the North Eastern States with another State of India and include them in North East NSS Festival with the concerned pairing state whenever it is organized in that state.  Arunachal being paired with Uttar Pradesh, NSS volunteers from UP were also present. 

Chief Guest, Hage Kojeen, conveyed the wishes of Honchun Ngandam, Minister Education who couldn’t grace the occasion due to the ongoing Assembly Session.  Kojeen also called upon the participants to learn from each other and work towards greater national integration and added that youth is the bridge between change and continuity, tradition and modernity and youths have a constructive role to play in nation building.  He exhorted the participants to be disciplined in life, which contributes to success in life.

Director, Higher and Technical Education, Dr. Tejum Padu while speaking from personal experience as an NSS volunteer, called upon the participants to learn about other north-eastern states through the programme and widen the horizons of their mind.  SLO, NSS, Arunachal Pradesh Dr. VN Sharma was specially felicitated on the occasion for all the hard work put in and the many years of service to NSS and the department of Education as he is due to retire this year. 

The 300 participants from the nine states will rub shoulders with each other for these five days and learn from each other and appreciate the culture, language and traditions of others and work towards the theme: Ek Bharath Shreshtha Bharat!
