ITANAGAR, Dec 29: The 12-hour capital bandh called by Abotani Clan Organization (ATCO) on Fridayfailed to evoke any response from capital dwellers.

All businesses including shops, financial institutions remained opened and vehicles were seen plying as usual without interruption.

To ensure public safety and no untoward incident occurs, the district administration who had declared the as bandh illegal earlier deputed about 12 Company of police force along with ITBP and IRBn at several strategic locations.

Supervising the whole affair, Superintendent of Police, Sagar Singh Kalsi said that the police force was prepared in advance and full effort was put in to maintain peace and tranquillity in the state capital.

He disclosed that few protesters tried to block the NH-415 at Ganga Market at around 2.30 AM ahead of the bandh, but the active patrolling team apprehended all 4 activists from the spot and case has been registered against them under Itanagar PS case No-339/17 u/s-341/188/34 IPC.

He said that twenty ATCO activists allegedly stopped one dumper of Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) and broke the wind shield and snatched the vehicle keys from the driver. However after conducting raids, all the accused were arrested.

Also two executive members of ATCO were also nabbed during the raid conducted by police and sent to Jully jail, he added.

Meanwhile at Naharlagun sub division three cases were registered at Naharlagun Police Station in which, a BA 1st year student was arrested for pelting stones at public vehicle besides  burning tyres near NRL petrol pump at around 7.30 AMwhich was causing obstruction to vehicular movement.

The a second case registered  under 211/17 u/s-188, 427/341 IPC  two persons were taken into custody for blocking the highway with boulders and pelting stones on moving vehicles plying  between  Nyorch village near Yupia.

Kalsi said that altogether 21 persons have been arrested and two vehicle torching cases and two vehicle damaged case have been reported.

“The cost of damaged properties will be recovered from the bandh callers and a damage assessment committee has been already formed under the chairmanship of Capital DC to assess the loss. However no loss of life or causality has been reported from any part of the capital complex, Kalsi further added.

Executive members of ATCO namely Yura Tachik and Sangi Gyadi and five active members of ATCO were booked U/S- 3 of Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 2014. Many activists of ATCO were also arrested.

Yesterday six bandh callers were taken into preventive custody, informed a release form the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
