ITANAGAR, Feb 7:A two-day state level induction training programme for newly deployed ‘Swachhgrahi’ under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) was conducted by the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department which concluded today here at the State Water Testing Laboratory, MOWB-II, Itanagar. 130 trainees from various districts took part and were trained on their role as a swachhgrahi and motivator to build up their capacity. Trainees were taught about their role and importance as a communicator to sensitise about sanitation particularly on sustainability aspect of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status of rural Arunachal and to promote the cleanliness protocol evolved by the state government at grassroots level.

Zilla Swachh Bharat Preraks (ZSBP) from East Kameng, Papumpare and Anjaw districts conducted technical sessions as resource persons through power point presentation and videos on swachhata.

The ‘Swachhgrahis’ were taught regarding the objectives for making India open defecation free and Community Approaches to Sanitation (CAS) which is based on understanding that sanitation is a community issue, and not only an individual household issue, moreover, to place community in the lead role not only inacceptance and use of toilets by everyone, but also in total elimination of open defecation practices. Also, session on key elements of sustainable ODF and strategic road map were deliberated at length.

On the second day of the training, an intensive interactive session was held where trainees had group discussion and gave innovative ideas on action plan through presentation which they have planned to implement in their respective villages and districts. The trainees also shared their views, experience and success stories regarding Swachh Bharat programme implemented in their villages.

Addressing the trainees Chief Engineer (Sanitation), Toko Jyoti, urged the ‘swachhgrahis’ to have a right attitude and to develop good relation with the public as they are now authorised government machineries working at village level. Superintending Engineer (Sanitation) Joi Angu, also spoke in the event congratulating them for successfully completing the training programme and gave away certificates and Identity Card to Swachhgrahis along with T-shirt and cap.

The orientation programme concluded with resolutions to sustain Open Defecation Free (ODF) at village and promotion of cleanliness at household and community levels.
