NAHARLAGUN, Mar 31: In a strong push towards cleanliness and civic responsibility, a massive social service drive was carried out across the Model Gram Panchayat segment between the Helipad and Arch Bridge in Nigam Colony and A-Sector of Naharlagun township under the Capital Complex. The Abhiyan successfully cleared huge heaps of garbage that had accumulated over time due to indiscriminate dumping.
Leading the initiative, 1-Borum ZPM Tang Yado actively participated alongside Gram Panchayat Chairperson Momi Welly Taba, Head Gaon Bura Techi Murki, former ASM Techi Tara, and Youth Secretary Taba Tabang on Tuesday morning.
Addressing the issue, ZPM Tang Yado stated that the cleanliness drive was long overdue, as the area had turned into a dumping zone due to irresponsible behavior of passersby and vehicle owners who frequently threw garbage from moving vehicles along the Helipad–Borum road. She expressed concern over the lack of civic sense, noting that despite repeated clean-up efforts, the problem persists.
Highlighting future measures, she warned that CCTV cameras may soon be installed to identify and penalize offenders who continue to litter and pollute public spaces. “We have observed such acts repeatedly, and now it is time to take strict action against those who refuse to maintain cleanliness,” she said.
She further informed that challenges related to manpower and vehicles are being taken up on priority. The Panchayat plans to approach the local MLA and the Panchayati Raj Minister for support to strengthen waste management across multiple Gram Panchayat segments, including Borum and Model Village.
Appealing to the public, she urged residents not to dump waste near water bodies, especially along the Pachin riverbanks, and to refrain from throwing bottles or garbage from vehicles, which not only pollutes the environment but can also cause accidents.
