ZIRO, Aug 13: The members of the Governing Board, NgunuZiro conducted a review meeting to take stock of the preparation for the Ziro Butterfly Meet 2019 scheduled to be held on September 4-8 next.
Twenty seven participants including butterfly experts and enthusiasts from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam besides Arunachal have registered till date and the registration window will close on August 15. Representatives of partner organizations like Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE), Butterfly Group of North East India and Butterflies and Moths of Sikkim (BAMOS) are also participating. Resource Persons for this year’s meet are Sanjay Sondhi of Titli Trust and Mohanprasanth P. of Act of Butterflies.
The four-day programme will include workshops on butterfly watching, butterfly photography and on significance of butterflies in the ecosystem and overall sustainable development. A book titled ‘Butterflies of Ziro’ which is a community initiative will also be released during the meet which will be an inventory of about 200 species of butterflies.
It can be recalled that the first Ziro Butterfly Meet in 2013 drew attention of the butterfly enthusiasts from all over the world when the rare and elusive ‘Kaiser-e-Hind’ was photographed live for the first time in India.
