Ziro, Jan 18: The 10th Ziro Bird Walk was conducted today at the Hakhe-Tari Community Forest under the guidance of DFO Koj Rinya and teams from Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club (APBC).
Ornithologist Dr. Daniel Mize and Pathologist & Wildlife Photographer Dr. Joram Khopey briefed the participants about the dos and don’ts of birding, its importance and relevance. A booklet titled ‘Bird Checklist of Tale Wildlife Sanctuary’ compiled by Professor Ranjan Kumar Das was also released. A total of 20 species of birds were recorded during the walk and participants comprised research scholars from RGU and students from life sciences and engineering backgrounds. The Ziro Bird Walk is an initiative of APBC and Hapoli Forest Division which is conducted every Saturday in the community forests for awareness creation towards wildlife protection. Participants joined voluntarily and groups like People for Wildlife Forum from Kamle and Lower Subansiri districts were instrumental in encouraging youths to participate.
Earlier, such bird walks were conducted in different community forests and Tale Reserve Forest and so far, 230 species had been recorded, of which important ones are the Great Cormorant, Northern Pintail from Swkhe Lake and also Himalayan Blue Tail, Red-headed Trogon, Grey-headed Parrotbill, Spot-throated Babler, Rufous Vented Yuhina, etc.
