KHONSA, Aug 23: Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a security coordination here at its Battalion Headquarters today under the chairmanship of Commandant, Colonel Amit Kumar Das, which was attended by representatives of Tirap Police and district administration. Eighty Gaon Burahs and Rajas from all villages of the district also attended the security meeting.
Apprising about the general situation in Tirap, the Commandant sought the active involvement and cooperation of village authorities to ensure unlawful activities of insurgents including extortion, kidnapping, insurgent recruitment and other nefarious activities are further reduced for safety and security and for peace to prevail.
Das appreciated the village appointments for sharing timely intelligence regarding underground movement which has resulted in a number of neutralisations, apprehensions of hardcore insurgents in the last one and a half years. The recent infiltration by a group of NSCN K(YA) cadres led by SS Capt Rocky Thapa in Tirap district was discussed and due to the timely information provided by the villagers, Security Forces were able to neutralise two cadres and apprehend one along with huge cache of arms and ammunition, he said.
Cases of youth joining the insurgent groups have reduced drastically which shows that the youth despise insurgency and want peace, village appointments should further motivate them not to join any insurgent group, the Commandant added.
The security meet received an overwhelming response and the attendees unanimously decided to stop giving extortion money henceforth and fight the menace of insurgency together to enable peace to prevail in Tirap District. DIPRO
