Chandigarh, Sep 26: An Orientation-cum-Meeting of Northeast youth leaders and students' organization leaders were held here at Don Bosco Navjeevan Society on September 25 last participated by twenty four youth leaders representing all the eight NE states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura.
It was an initiative of the Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Itanagar in collaboration with Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, Chandigarh and was arranged in view of the upcoming 5th edition of North East Youth Fest (NEYF) to be held at Chandigarh. While briefing the participants about the origin and aims of organizing NEYF, Director, DBYC Fr. Cyriac spoke how some unfortunate incidents that took place in the lives of the Northeast youths had inspired DBYC to rise to the occasion. “The fest should not be just yet another festival, but it should be an educative, entertaining and morally good activity which should bring changes for the better in the lives of all of you,” said Fr. Cyriac. He called upon the core team to organize the event with judicious utilisation of fund and exhorted the leaders to make a paradigm shift in leadership style and go the Mahatma Gandhi way on the eve of his 150th Birth Anniversary. Director, Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, Fr Regi who is also the partner and coordinator of NEYF led the leaders in discussion and finalization of the details of the fest and also suggested to have at least one state-wise meeting to chalk out the role of each state. NEYF 2019 will be having the theme “Peaceful India, Progressive India” (Shanth Bharath, Samridh Bharath) and the date has been fixed as on November 12 with venue at St. Stephen’s School here.
The fest will have a mix of sessions on themes and matters of importance to Northeast youths by eminent personalities along with cultural songs, dances, costume shows, all showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Northeast and its people. DBYC PR
