ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) on Wednesday announced the launch of a mass agitation titled ‘National Register of Unemployed’ as a mark of protest against the relentless rise in unemployment.
“The movement is part of the nationwide protest launched by the INC to highlight the shortcomings of the central government in tackling the job crisis,” APYC General Secretary Vijay Nalo told reporters at a press conference today.
Hitting out at the NDA Government for failing to address the escalating rate of unemployment in the country, Nalo asserted that common people particularly the qualified youths in the state are very disturbed and frustrated. Calling the unemployment scenario a very bad sign for growth of the state and nation as a whole, the APYC GS also denounced the NDA’s claim that it has created millions of jobs since it came to power in 2014. He alleged that while a large proportion of graduates with potential talents are sitting idle due to lack of job opportunities, the NDA government on the other hand is busy introducing unnecessary laws and policies. Nalo also said that the job losses are happening mainly due to demonetization and implementation of GST and singled out unemployment as a major reason for rise in crimes, suicides and other vices.
Citing an assessment carried out by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Nalo informed that according to it, unemployment rate in India has reached its highest in 45 years. He also said that according to National Crime Bureau data, 3 unemployed persons are committing suicide every two hours. In 2018, 12936 unemployed committed suicides, which is more than the total number of farmer suicides in the country, he added.
Meanwhile, a helpline number 8151994411 was also unveiled today through which unemployed youths can register themselves by giving a missed call to support the agitation.
