SEPPA, Aug 3: The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) led by its Chairman S D Loda on Monday participated in a district level meeting here at the Kameng Hall under chairmanship of DC East Kameng-cum-Chairman DUDA to discuss issues relating to solid waste management, individual household latrines and implementation of civic and service charges in the township.
Expressing deep concern over the pollution of Kameng river and its tributaries due to dumping of garbage, the YMCR Chairman urged the DC to take action against the polluters specially those residing nearby the catchment area, identify pollution sources and expedite construction of the solid waste treatment plant. To combat excessive pollution in rivers across Seppa township, Loda suggested that drainage nets should be used in all the exit nallah points of colonies so that the water gets cleaned before reaching the river. The YMCR Chairman also advocated for ban on sale of Single Use Plastic in the district, installation of dustbins with segregation facility in all colonies, organizing a 'Cleanest Colony' competition to motivate denizens and directing the Pepsico distributors to facilitate a take-back policy of bottles for recycling.
Agriculture department has to initiate mass awareness on turning household organic waste into compost/fertilizer for crops so that biodegradable wastes are treated at home itself, he added.

Urging the District Administration to prepare an Action Plan for cleaning Kameng river at Nungtey Anung point and Kuchi and Macha rivers in collaboration with WRD, PHE, DUDA and all user agencies, Loda said the YMCR would ensure presence of 40 volunteers for the clean drive provided the weather is favourable and the DA makes arrangement for logistics.
ADC Seppa, DUDA officials, chairpersons of colonies, representatives of EKCCI, KRRC and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
