YINGKIONG, Mar, 25 : District Health Society (RNTCP), Upper Siang observed the World TB Day 2019 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Geku on March 24 last with the theme “It’s time to unite, end TB.”
All students, teaching & non-teaching staff and two medical officers of CHC Geku attended the event. A ball pen was distributed to each participant as a token of observance of the important event.
Two DOT providers (Treatment Supporters), Omang Tamuk, GNM, CHC Geku and Oyik Tali and ASHA, Sika-Diine were felicitated with cash prizes of Rs 2500 each and a commendation certificate in presence of the principal for their outstanding contributions as DOT providers.
District TB Officer Dr Ahik Miyu, addressed the event through a PowerPoint Presentation on TB disease, its free diagnosis and free treatment services. He stressed on the importance of strictly adhering to standard treatment protocol under DOTS to ensure cure and prevent the emergence of drug resistant TB. He exhorted that early identification of symptoms of TB at community level and early medical intervention are the cornerstones of prevention of further spread and sure cure with least long term complications.
This was followed by an interactive session wherein the District TB officer answered queries raised by the participants.
Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu under initiative of the Principal Dr. Kangki Megu, in association with Department of Health and Family Welfare led by DMO Dr. S. Chai Pul today observed the World Tuberculosis Day with a large participation by students and teaching community.
DMO urged the students to be informative about the treatment of tuberculosis and stressed on the need to spread awareness among the villagers and vulnerable sections of society like labourers, slum dwellers so as to ensure a tuberculosis-free India by 2030 as per the targets set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Students from science departments made a presentation on the causes of TB.
Later in the day, NSS Unit of the college with Programme Officer-cum-Assistant Professor L. Kimsing, in collaboration with District Urban Development Agency (DUDA)’s Executive Engineer Bapenlu Kri organised an awareness programme on garbage management.
A ppt slide competition having cash prizes was also arranged on the theme “Measures to achieve swachhta in Tezu town by 2022” in which students participated with competitive spirit. DIPRO
