ITANAGAR, Apr 22: World Earth Day 2019 was celebrated in various institutions of the state today with the central theme of propagating the message of environmental protection.
This year’s theme was ‘Protect Our Species’ and the NCC unit of Government College Bomdila commemorated the celebration with distribution of pamphlets conveying the need for protection and conservation of human species. A 5-minute video titled-‘Earth Day 1970-2017-What’s changed?’ was also screened on the occasion. Later, the students participated in the poster making competition.
NCC cadets of Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic under 1AP Battalion National Cadet Corps (Army) took out a rally to promote environmental awareness by sensitizing students and people towards their role in addressing global environmental challenges. The march led by Lieutenant Palvinder Singh, ANO echoed slogans of ‘Save Earth,’‘Go Green No Polythene,’‘No Earth No Life,’etc.The cadets also planted trees, cleaned campus, actively took part in a seminar on Earth Day and took an oath to protect natural resources under the guidance of Commanding Officer Colonel R.K Sharma, & Administrative Officer Major Shikha Yadav. Earth Day was also celebrated by NCC cadets of NIIT Yupia and JNC Pagighat with similar activities.
Rajiv Gandhi University also celebrated World Earth Day with its B.Ed IV semester students of Department of Education along with faculty members of the department organising procession and skits in the university campus, Doimukh and Nirjuli market.
During procession, students displayed colourful placards containing messages on how to save the environment and uttered various slogans based on the importance of flora and fauna to maintain ecological balance.Performed skits focused on how deforestation, pollution and illegal pouching are causing massive environmental degradation.The main focus of the celebration was to create awareness about environmental issues and its safety for better tomorrow among the general mass.
The programme started with tree plantation by the students in the department premises. Head of the department Professor E. Hangsing, Professor J. Shahoo and Dr. Vivek Singh also addressed the gathering regarding sustainable development and role of public awareness in promoting environmental sustainability. DIPRO inputs & RGU Press Release
