ITANAGAR, Dec 3: Along with the rest of the nation, Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs in collaboration with National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD) observed ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ here at Siddharta Hall today.
Minister of Health, SJETA & WCD Alo Libang attended the event as Chief Guest and stated that state government is providing all support to  differently abled persons in every filed. “You are not less than any other person and you can do everything in a different way with a more positive approach,” added the Minister. He also urged the members to avail the benefits available in the department for their upliftment. Earlier, Minister also distributed aids and appliances to the Divyangjans  and  awareness camps on ‘Unique Identification for Persons with Disabilities’ and on schemes and projects for Divyangjans were also held. Meanwhile, a cultural event was also performed by the Divyangjan Society and students of capital’s Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired. In a separate event, Divyang Welfare Society of Aruachal Pradesh (DWSAP) also observed that day at Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre. Minister for Health and SJETA Alo Libang attended the event as Chief Guest and President Itanagar Market Welfare Association Yumlam Achung as Guest of Honour.
International Day For Persons With Disability was observed today in East Siang in a befitting manner which started with a procession by school children and teachers. 
A sensitization program was organized at Mirem UPS where 37 Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The programme was attended by officers, teachers, school children, differently abled persons and their escorts, Gaon Burahs, villagers and functionaries from the WCD. Ering lauded the efforts of the department in working towards the empowerment of the differently abled and said that there is a special need for their  participation and equal opportunities and urged those present in the meeting, especially the local heads and leaders to come forward and to take advantage of the government policies and programmes and sensitize those who are still unaware of them. Deputy Director (ICDS) PE Angu apprised the audience on the various programmes, benefits and rights provided for the differently abled persons. An awareness meet was also organized at the Pasighat Engo Takar Residential School. SDO Pasighat Oli Perme attended as chief guest and stressed on inclusion of differently abled persons in the mainstream of society. Principal of the school spoke on the occasion while the DD(ICDS) stressed on the need to prevent disability at the outset by taking care to cover all immunizations and check-ups especially during pregnancy and touched the subject of PMMVY wherein first-time mothers are provided with a financial aid of Rs 5000 by the government.

Jitor Pertin, an empowered person with sight debility spoke on how he overcame his handicap to stand on his own as a musician. Samy Moyong, physiotherapist, BPGH also spoke on the various kinds of disabilities, causes and the prevention of debilitating illnesses. Earlier on Monday, painting and drawing competitions were organized for school children wherein prizes were given away to the winners by the Deputy Director (ICDS) East Siang.
World Disability Day was celebrated at Namsai today in the Hochayan Poi Pee Mau ground, organized jointly by the District Administration and District Unit of SJETA in collaboration with Department of Health UDID Unit, Education (ISSE, SSDS) and local NGOs like SEWA of Namsai and District Disability Welfare Society.
Altogether 107 differently able persons participated from different villages of Namsai district along with their guardian and parents and students. They  were given Disability Certificates and UDID Cards by the Medical Department through the Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Bijoy Talukdar. He also gave away the prizes and certificates of appreciation to all participants in games and sports. The day was observed with display and sale of products made by differently able persons. Resource persons  were Uttam kumarfrom Education Department and CDPO cum district Nodal Officer W. Khimhun. District Administrator UDID Dr. C.M. Thamoung highlighted the importance of creating UDID and causes of preventable and correctable disabilities. Most of the disabled persons from all five circles of Namsai district participated in different games and sports, singing competition etc.
Winners of the events were awarded with prizes and certificates of appreciation by Deputy Commissioner in presence of DMO Namsai Dr.Ng Soreya Namhoom. Those who didn't get any Disability Certificate and who had not appeared before the medical board were requested to report for the disability assessment at District Hospital Namsai on every last Friday of the month.
