Naharlagun, Feb 4: To mark the occasion of World Cancer Day which is observed on the 4th of February every year, State Cancer Society of Arunachal Pradesh (SCSAP) in collaboration with Indian Medical Association (IMA) Arunachal State Branch and Arunachal Cancer Welfare Society (ACWS) organised a voluntary blood donation camp here at the TRIHMS Blood Bank.
Secretary (H& FW) P. Parthiban who was the Chief Guest said since the dreaded disease is making rapid inroads in Arunachal Pradesh, active participation of individuals, NGOs and members of civil society in the fight back is crucial. He emphasised that camps of this kind will go a long way in catering to the needs of cancer patients and in creating awareness against the disease and gave an estimate that each cancer patient during treatment may require an average of 4 units of blood, steady supply of which is only possible with active participation by society.
State Nodal Officer for Cancer Control Programme Dr. S. Tsering reiterated the importance of World Cancer Day and this year’s theme “I am and I will” which is a call for action by every individual to come forward and make efforts to fight against the negative attitude and myths surrounding cancer. Personal actions can have a powerful impact in spreading awareness, contributing to early detection and supporting the cancer patient throughout the journey, he added. President, IMA-Arunachal State Branch Dr. Lobsang Tsetim and Honorary Secretary Dr. Jego Ori donated blood and mobilised many doctors for the same.
Chairman, ACWS Yomli Sora along with his team also motivated and mobilised various youth organisations to participate in the event. Manipuri Welfare Society of Arunachal Pradesh contributed 20 units of blood along with participation by members from other societies, doctors, student bodies and individuals. More than 50 units of blood were collected during the camp.
