Itanagar, Dec 20: A two-day workshop on GIS and Remote Sensing titled “Foundational Course on GIS and Remote Sensing” was organised by the Department of Geography, Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar, under the theme “Harnessing GIS and Remote Sensing for Sustainable Development: A Practical Application in Geographical Research.” The programme was organised under the aegis of the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme was conducted under the able patronage of Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal, Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, whose guidance and support were instrumental in the successful organisation of the workshop.
The workshop aimed at strengthening both conceptual understanding and practical skills in GIS and Remote Sensing, with special emphasis on their applications in geographical and environmental research. The programme was structured over two days. The first day focused on foundational concepts such as GIS fundamentals, digitisation, georeferencing, and spatial data handling. The second day emphasised advanced applications, hands-on problem-solving sessions, and an introduction to emerging trends, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in spatial analysis.
The technical sessions were conducted by esteemed resource person, namely Shiv Mihu, M.A. (Geography), University of Mumbai, Field Investigator, ICSSR Project, Rajiv Gandhi University. His expert lectures and practical demonstrations provided valuable insights into both theoretical and applied aspects of GIS and Remote Sensing, greatly enriching the learning experience of the participants.
The two-day workshop was successfully conducted on December 19-20, and witnessed the participation of 50 participants, including students, research scholars, and teaching faculty from various colleges across the state.
