TEZU, Sep 23: At a time when China is building highways, bridges, railway lines, airbases and other military infrastructure close to the McMahon Line at a rapid pace, as a counteractive measure, India too is trying to inject momentum in building the strategically important Arunachal Frontier Highway that will pass through the Northeastern-most districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
As a part of the ambitious project which is a planned border highway, works for the double-lane alignment of 20 km stretch from Khupa to Tafraliang is in full swing which will connect Anjaw to Desali in Lower Dibang Valley district. The road, having a length of 165 km will connect up to Hunli, the main tri-junction for Anjaw, Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley districts. Although it is topographically tough and technically challenging, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) 48 BRTF Demwe has been expediting the works and aims to meet the completion deadline of 2026. Out of 20 km in Anjaw district, almost 14 km has been cleared and the remaining portion will connect the Desali Circle.
The strategically important Arunachal Frontier Highway which will be around 2000 km in total length will originate from Mago-Thingbu in Tawang district and meander along the McMahon Line through the districts of West Kameng, East Kameng, Upper Subansiri, Mechuka in Shi-Yomi, Tuting in Upper Siang, Dibang Valley, Desali in Lower Dibang Valley, Chaglagam, Kibithu, Dong and Hawai  in Anjaw district and end at Vijaynagar in Changlang at the junction of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Myanmar.
