ITANAGAR, Jun 30: Days after a portion of the highway between Pasighat and Pangin near Rottung village in Siang district was washed away due to heavy rainfall, PWD (Highway) Pasighat Division today started the construction works of an alternative road from Rottung to 20 Mile.
Men and machineries including excavators have been pressed into service to manage earth cutting works. Junior Engineer, PWD (Highway) Pangin Sub-division B. Sutar informed that a survey for the alternative road was conducted on the very next day of the incident and the ongoing formation cutting works will take around 10-15 days to complete the 3.2 km road stretch from Damuk WRC area to 20 Mile. The concerned agency, TK Engineering Consortium Ltd had earlier constructed around 5 km from Rottung to Damuk WRC area, the JE informed, adding that restoration works for the old road (highway portion) will commence soon after the weather gets clear.
Kebang Block ZPM Topi Jerang who visited the site has requested the highway department to construct the road on a war footing keeping in mind the inconvenience of the commuters. Due to heavy road blockades in multiple places, people are facing untold problems especially during medical emergencies, she said. 
Youth leader Tajir Siram has appealed to the state government to construct a permanent road from Rottung to 20 Mile, reasoning that the existing road portion is not safe for travelling and assuring along with that villagers will extend full support in the construction process. Former Rottung ASM Tageng Taki said the said stretch of road will also facilitate the villagers in carrying out agri-horticultural activities.
