ITANAGAR, Jul 24:The Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society today questioned the police department for failing to arrest Jt. Commissioner Tax and Excise, Tani Jongkey for child molestation, despite passage of 19 days since the incident.

Expressing concern over the delay, it said that the non-arrest of the accused is demoralizing the victim’s family. The APWWS while strongly appealing the police to expedite the investigation and arrest the accused, said ‘it is very unfortunate that a high ranking official has committed such a shameful and condemnable act.’

Furthermore, the APWWS has requested the state government to set up full-fledged Child Rights Commission to check such child related crimes.

‘Due to absence of strict child protection laws in the state, many times similar cases go unreported,’ it said while urging parents to come forward and report such acts.
