Rono Hills, Jul 21: The Institute of Distance Education and Women Studies and Research Centre, Rajiv Gandhi University on Monday organized a panel discussion on the theme ‘Evolving Administrative Paradigms in Post-Covid India’ in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) through a videoconferencing mode.  
Vice Chancellors from six universities were invited to speak on the topic.  RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha chaired the inaugural session and Secretary General, AIU Dr. Pankaj Mittal while delivering the keynote address shared the 7 steps to be taken by a university to achieve excellence and spoke about the programmes such as AIU’s initiative of ‘Best 5’ and self-paced online courses for teachers introduced in collaboration with QASPIR. RGU Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra highlighted the importance of administrators during and after the pandemic. Secretary Education Niharika Rai highlighted how lack of connectivity has paralysed Arunachal’s education sector and hoped the panellists come up with workable plans in this regard for the state which is geographically-challenged. Director, IDE, RGU Professor Ashan Riddi opined that the Open and Distance education modes can be the only appropriate mediums of learning during the pandemic. Professor Kushwaha while addressing the panellists highlighted the problems regarding examinations during the pandemic. Faculty at IDE, RGU and Coordinator of the programme Moyir Riba conducted the session.
The first panel discussion was moderated by Director, WS&RC, RGU Professor Elizabeth Hangsing. VC, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram Professor Rajasree MS stressed on the importance of digitalization of institutions. VC, Bhagat Phool Singh (BPS) Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, Haryana Professor Sushma Yadav focused on the problems faced by the state-government-run universities and opined that a direct shift from the traditional methods of teaching to online mode is not conducive as issues like connectivity, internet access, electricity and devices persist. VC, Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka Professor Sonajharia Minz said universities should follow HRD guidelines while ensuring equity, justice and dignity of staff and students. 

Professor Jumyir Basar from AITS, RGU moderated the second session. VC, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur Professor Neelima Gupta shared the data regarding gender-wise distribution of professors at universities in European countries and percentage of women professors and VCs in Commonwealth countries. VC, Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women University, Mumbai Professor Shashikala Vanjari stated that digitization is important but can be effective only if there is scope for person-to-person interaction platforms. VC, Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad Professor Ami Upadhyay discussed the problems faced by women administrators of the varsities.
Keeping in view that the deliberations gave rich and insightful details, it was decided that they will be transcripted into a document which may be released for sharing with the institutions. RGU PR
