HAWAI, Oct 13: As many as 50 villages in the remote Manchal Circle of Anjaw district have remained in complete darkness for at least a year due to dismantling of electric poles during the ongoing Trans Arunachal Highway works by the construction agencies.
“We haven’t had electricity for the last one year and it feels we have returned back to the Dark Age,” said Somring Kri, a Gaon Burah of Quibang village, lamenting that despite several complaints and calls for assistance, connection hasn’t been restored till date. “There are electric poles with wire connection in most of the villages, but no electricity which has also resulted in disappearance of mobile networks and we are being compelled to lead an isolated life cut-off from the rest of the world,” Kri rued. “Neither we could convey the emergency messages to our relatives and family members staying outside the district nor we could get updates from them,” the GB expressed helplessness.
“At a time when the government is pressing for online classes, here we don’t have electricity and telephone network,” a local villager S. Ngadong said, also adding that it takes at least 24 km of travel to reach Hayuliang just to receive mobile signal and make an urgent call. “Manchal Circle is the worst-affected area and the concerned Electrical department and the construction agency are playing the blame game among themselves,” a former Chief Engineer Lupalum Kri said, alleging that there is no coordination between the two.
When asked about the reason for the prevailing stalemate, EE (Elect.) Hayuliang Sub-Division Taduram Darang informed that the said construction agency Sushee Infra is carrying out road cutting works in a haphazard manner due to which the 11KV line at various locations along the hillside and valley has been disrupted.
However, he informed that a joint meeting involving the construction agency, District Administration and Power Department was held recently and within the current week phase-wise restoration works will be undertaken and electricity will be restored by November next.
