BOMDILA, Feb 8: The wildfire raging in the hills of Wanghoo and Rupa area of West Kemang district since February 6 last which was brought under control this evening has devastated several hectares of forest areas as well as Kiwi & Apple orchards of villagers.
Speaking to this daily, Range Forest Officer-Bomdila, TD Mega informed that the fire is under total control as of 4pm today, however all operations and forces from Police, Fire Brigade, and Forest including public are on alert. 
"The fire in low land areas is under control but there are few inaccessible terrain at the top of the hills, so the teams are on high alert as wind might reignite the fire," said the forest officer.
Asked about the cause of the fire incident, the RFO said a definitive reason couldn't be attributed but termed it a wildfire. He informed that villagers claimed that it started from a High-tension electrical wire that passes between the hills near Dukhumpani.
No human casualty has been reported yet; we cannot asses the losses as of now as efforts are still going on to fully control the fire, he said
"We have limited government men and machine, but with support of the public, we are trying our best to control the fire from spreading further," said the officer.
Meanwhile, villagers from Wanghoo village claimed that Kiwi and Apple orchard of several persons were damaged in the fire. 
Villagers numbering to eighty extended  their help to douse the fire since February 6.
Every year such wildfire creates havoc in the area and damage hectares of cultivated lands, lamented a villager while seeking consideration from the concerned department to extend all possible help to the villagers who have lost their orchards in the forest fire.
