AALO, Sep 8: The biggest village in West Siang district, Darka has repaired an old road which was lying unfit for travelling for past many years fully on self-help basis.
The road is the lifeline of the village as it connects vast areas of cultivation fields and important establishments from the village to Aalo besides shortening the distance by 3 km. The foundation stone of the Steel Bridge connecting the road was laid by then Chief Minister Mukut Mithi in 2001 and was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Late Dorjee Khandu in 2008. Since then it was lying in a dilapidated condition for want of repair as large chunks from the surface were eroded due to rain over the years.
In a bid to revive the road, the Humgo-Rigo Dik Bogdo Committee, Darka and Darka Aalo Welfare Society decided to take up the said stretch of 4 km through voluntary contribution of cash and kind assigning different nature of manual works to Darka-I, Darka-II and Darka-III separately under the Chairmanship of Dui Ete, Secretary Jumli Padu and HGB Jomgum Padu.
The road was opened for vehicular movement on Tuesday amid cheers and applause. It has been refurbished taking care of both comfort and security with CC pavements in all vulnerable places and curves spanning 71.40 metres, adequate number of culverts and enough spaces for parking and crossing of vehicles.
