Aalo, Jul 1: In the wake of the tragic drowning incident of a girl in Yomgo river recently, all kinds of activities like fishing, bathing, picnic etc. on all the river banks of West Siang district have been banned for the current monsoon season up to November 30.
Ordering the ban under the relevant Section of Disaster Management Act, 2005, District Magistrate has directed the administrative officers of sub-divisions, circles, HGBs and GBs of the villages located in the periphery of Yomgo river and its tributaries to check such activities as water levels can rise up any time above danger levels resulting in disaster.
It can be recalled that the girl was drowned in Yomgo river while taking bath and could not be traced out even after tireless search operations by police, army, local NGOs and family members. Police and Principals of schools have also been instructed to check these activities and spread awareness among children who are habituated to venture into rivers after schools hours. DIPRO
