Asks state to clear stand on Naga territorial expanse issue

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Reiterating its stand on the autonomous region issue, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today said it will stick to its commitment of not supporting any special privilege in the name of autonomous region in the state, irrespective of the 6th Schedule proposition.
Addressing a press conference, AAPSU President Hawa Bagang while welcoming state government’s decision to move a resolution in the state assembly to appeal the Centre for amendment of Article 371 (H) and include Arunachal Pradesh in the 6th Schedule, categorically stated that as long as the union exists in the state, it won’t allow anyone to go ahead with such divisive policy. “Any kind of movement in favour of autonomous regions is uncalled for,” he remarked.
The apex students body of the state also expressed concern on the ongoing Naga peace talks. “We welcome such initiative of the Central government for the cause of Naga peace, but it should be within the territory of Nagaland and we won’t allow anyone to grab an inch of our state,” the AAPSU President asserted. He further stated that it is high time for the state government to clear its stand on the Naga territorial expanse issue as most of the other Northeast states have already declared their respective stand in this regard.
“We support the demands for development, schools, institutions, hospitals, roads etc. but won't allow any divisive tactics to succeed,” he added.
AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai while terming the Naga peace talks as “very sensitive” said that the state government should maintain transparency. “We welcome the initiative of the Naga Peace Accord, but the Centre should not take any decision that may impact the state’s territorial integrity and cause repercussions,” he said. Observing that most of the people from the Tirap, Changlang and Longding region are in favour of peace, the GS said it can only be possible if the Centre and the state manage to dilute insurgency.

Meanwhile, AAPSU has urged the state government, concerned departments and contractors to expedite the highway project in the Capital Region and complete it within this working season. The union also reiterated its concern over delay in bringing a proper law regarding the offspring issue.
