Rono Hills, Oct 3: The weeklong film festival focusing on the life of Mahatma Gandhi conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University concluded here on Friday last coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
Organised in both online and offline modes, the closing day witnessed screening of films at the open air theatre near the Wall of Heroes, the structure which serves as a remembrance of the supreme sacrifices made by the country’s valiant freedom fighters and soldiers. RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha as Chief Guest emphasized on the relevance of Gandhian philosophy both for an individual citizen as well as in the nation’s policy making process. VC Professor Amitava Mitra shared memories of his student life when he got involved in a film on Gandhi. Registrar Dr. N.T. Rikam thanked the Films Division of India for supporting the festival with many rare films on Gandhi. Dr. Ira Helfand delivered a special talk on the importance of peace and Gandhi's messages through a webinar organized by the Gandhi King Foundation.
The Fit India Movement award ceremony was conducted on the day to distribute certificates and medals to the winners of various categories of the National Sports Day competition conducted on August 29. ‘RonoPost’, a bilingual monthly newsletter of RGU was also released on the university website with its special issue dedicated to the Mahatma and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The closing event was attended by students, Deans, HoDs, Controller of Examinations, Finance Officer and Joint Registrars. PRO RGU
