Aalo, Jul 20: The West Siang District Students’ Union (WSDSU) and PAWWA have decided to suspend their weeklong bandh w.e.f Monday evening after getting satisfied by the new guidelines issued by the state government and on getting assurance from the District Administration that all preventive measures to check the spread of Covid-19 in the district will be implemented in letter and spirit.
The differences were sorted out in a marathon meeting held here at the DC's Conference Hall on Monday under the chairmanship of West Siang DC Moki Loyi and attended by SP Jummar Basar, ADC Cum District Nodal Officer for Covid-19 Liyi Bagra, Town Magistrate Henkir Lollen, DMO Dr. Moli Riba and representatives from ATPWDS, WSDSU and PAYWA.
DC spelt out the new SOPs and the ADC, DMO and Town Magistrate read out the detailed guidelines to be followed to safeguard the interest of the district’s people such as installation of Covid-19 testing machines for easy detection of cases, maintenance of law and order etc. SP said that the bandh will simply compel him to withdraw the police force engaged for Covid duties and pose hurdle to the endeavour in fighting the disease unitedly. Representing on behalf of the ATPWDS, Nyiken Lollen reasoned that the bandh was necessitated to check the flow of returnees from areas having high Covid cases.
“But since the new guidelines issued after the meeting are largely in line with our demands, the bandh is suspended in the interests of the district’s people,” he added. DIPRO
