AALO, Jan 6: An awareness-cum-orientation programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme was organized by the Department of Women and Child Development, West Siang here at the Gumin Kiin on January 5 last.
ADC Liyi Bagra, district level officers from the departments of Health, Education and WCD and their frontline workers, community leaders like PRIs and women groups, students and SHG members attended the programme. DDICDS C. Tangjang while giving a short presentation on BBBP informed that the programme’s objective was to reorient the frontline workers of the line departments like AWWs/ASHAs and PRIs for better implementation of the scheme in the district. PPTs on ICPS and SAG were also made by the Protection Officer, DCPU and CDPO Aalo West respectively. The ADC called upon the frontline workers and members of civil society to spread mass awareness on the services available under BBBP especially in rural areas.
During the day-long programme the girl students of Classes X and XII were felicitated for their excellence in academic performance through citation and cash awards along with distribution of water filters to the AW centres. Various women-centric schemes implemented by the Health department and those related to girls such as free uniforms and books, VIDYA etc. were highlighted. 

ZPMs of the district condemned the rise in POCSO-related cases, stressed on equal property rights for girls in customary laws and requested the women organizations to address the menace of drugs.
