PASIGHAT, Nov 20: The Women Against Social Evils (WASE), which had fought hard to stop selling of liquor in the premises of the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK), Pasighat during the Tani festival celebration recently, has now appealed to the Governor and Chief Secretary to take action against the District Administration for granting permission to sell liquor (local wine and IMFL) in the guise of ethnic food (local cuisine) during the three-day celebration while defying the law.
In their letter to Governor and Chief Secretary, WASE stated that selling and serving of liquor are not actually permitted in the premises of religious places. WASE General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong and President, Omem Ering informed that the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang, Pasighat who had initially granted permission to ATCO for organizing the Tani festival at the CDPYK premises had made it clear of the terms and conditions that selling and serving of liquor will not be permitted. But ATCO obtained a separate permission for selling and serving liquor in the name of ethnic food from the district administration. “However, we had appealed to the district administration to withdraw the permission and had also submitted a petition in this regard. But despite our humble appeal, sale of liquor was allowed at the religious venue”, added Moyong and Ering.
WASE leaders also informed that President of CDPYK, Ajem Tayeng had also sought immediate cancellation of district administration’s permission.
The WASE General Secretary also quoted that, they are ready to knock the door of the court if Governor and CS fail to address their genuine complaint.
Meanwhile, attempt to obtain a clarification from the district administration on the issue failed as Dy. Commissioner couldn’t be contacted.
