PASIGHAT, Aug 20: Pasighat based NGO Women Against Social Evils (WASE) today attended drugs awareness camp at Pongging village in Upper Siang District.
Despite inclement weather and road blockade at Ribi stream, the eight member team reached the village to sensitize the villagers on the ill effects of drugs and contraband substances.
Appealing the locals to stop using drugs, WASE president Yamik Dulom Darang highlighted in detail about ill effects of using opium and ganja.
She further appealed to the womenfolk to stand united against the use of drugs, which is affecting the future of the youths.
She also requested the gaon buras and village secretary to control and take strict action against those selling drugs in the village.
A gaon bura of Pongging informed the visiting team that efforts have been made by the local administration to stop cultivation of opium and ganja in the area.
After hearing the deliberations made by the mothers group, many addicted youths have reportedly assured to leave the habit.
The awareness camp was conducted by the All Pongging Students' Union.
