Tawang, Oct 28: Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu today inaugurated the 4th State Level Archery Championship 2025 at the GTG High Altitude Stadium in Tawang. The Minister, who holds multiple key portfolios including Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fisheries and Food & Civil Supply, presided over the opening ceremony for the much-anticipated tournament.
In his address, Wangsu acknowledged archery's deep cultural significance, describing it as an ancient sport and survival skill ingrained in Arunachal’s tribal traditions and folklore for generations. He noted the sport's evolution into a modern competitive discipline, which has successfully opened up national and international avenues for talented athletes from the state.
The Minister highlighted the State Government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister  Pema Khandu to promote sports. He stressed that sports is viewed not just as games, but as a vital means of empowerment, unity and career opportunity for the youth. This commitment has led to significant improvements in sports infrastructure, training facilities and coaching support across rural and remote districts, resulting in many state athletes achieving gold and success in national and international championships.
Commending the efforts of the organizing committee, Wangsu offered advice to the participants, noting that archery teaches invaluable life skills such as focus, patience, discipline,  mental resilience and the ability to perform under pressure, qualities he deemed essential for success in any walk of life.
Later in the day, Wangsu conducted a series of field visits to the Regional Foundation Seed Potato Farm, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Dairy Farm at Changbu and Lemberdung respectively.
During intensive interactions with the officers at these facilities, the Minister emphasized the critical role of these departments. He stated that they must be role models to teach farmers and called for an innovative approach, urging them to introduce new breeds or saplings that are specific and best suited for the region.
Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo, Superintendent of Police Dorjee Wangdow Thungon and other district officers accompanied the Minister during the inspection visits.
